I installed the tank in position and then I adjusted its position by adjusting the small ropes. There isn't a lot of clearance around the tank so it is important to get it located in the right spot the first time.

This is just showing the tank from a different angle. You can see how little space is left between the tank and the cabane. You also have to leave enough space for the fittings to clear the firewall. Another consideration is will you be able to get the fittings out with the tank installed if you need to in the future.


I am thinking about installing my smoke oil tank in this space. Some of the things I am trying to decide is where the filler neck would go and if there is room to install or change bungees without major disassembly. I would use the same straps that support the fuel tank (the fuel tank would sit on top of the oil tank.) Anyone with any ideas let me know what you think.

These are the "T" bolts and the bushings they will mount through.

To get the bushings welded on squarely I drilled a couple of holes with the proper spacing into this board on each end. I will use the bolts to hold the bushings in place.

Here the bushings are set up to be tack welded. The two steel plates between the longeron and the board are to used as spacers to center the bushings on the longeron.

This is how everything looks clamped together ready for welding. I also put the spacers on the end of the board that wasn't getting welded to make sure the bushings weren't tilted.

Both bushings tack welded to the longeron.

The bushings finish welded onto the longerons. All that remains is to ream them to the correct size for the "T" bolts.

I'm not going to do anything more on this installation until I decide what to do about the oil tank. I also need to get the flight instruments I am going to use in the front cockpit (probably just an airspeed indicator, altimeter and tach) to make sure I have enough clearance for them and their plumbing.
